A revenge attempt from Pete led him to be executed by Rick, and Jessie found herself mourning over her dead, abusive husband. Pete was pretty much shocked, but he was also wounded and in front of everyone else in town, so he allowed Douglas to reassign him to another house.

Seeing someone fighting for her and her son like that gave Jessie the courage she never had during her years of marriage, and when the rest of the community eventually separated Rick and Pete, she resolved to kick her husband out of her house. Cornered, Jessie finally admitted that Pete was violent with her and with their son Pete arrived soon after, prompting Rick to leave, but the sheriff came back later that same afternoon, and had a violent fight with the doctor. Eventually, while Pete was at work, Rick arrived at the Andersons’ place and confronted Jessie in private. Ron had a black eye and told a story to explain it, and Rick noticed. During the welcoming party, Jessie as usual asked for Pete’s permission over anything, and Rick noticed. Their leader was a former sheriff, Rick Grimes, who read the signs of an abusive marriage right from the beginning in both Jessie and Ron. Everything seemed to be truly back to normal, until Aaronand Eric, the Safe-Zone’s recruiters, brought in another group, a large one. The only thing Jessie was able to do was instructing her son not to tell anybody outside their house what usually happened, and allowing him to love his father, leaving him in the delusion that the beatings were a part of a normal father-and-son relationship. Everything.Īfter a first, brief period of calm, Pete resumed his old “family habits”, and started beating Jessie and Ron as much as before, even worse. Eventually, after a few months the Andersons arrived in the Alexandria Safe-Zone, a fortified town led by a former Congressman, Douglas Monroe: upon knowing that Pete was a doctor, the Safe-Zone gladly welcomed him and his family, and Jessie found a new house to live in with her husband and son. Everything collapsed, and society crumbled in a few months: Jessie and her family found themselves on the run, looking for a place to take shelter, trying their best to survive, with Pete finally too busy protecting himself and his family to take a beat on them. At last, fate tried to give her a substantial hand, and the world ended: due to the Outbreak, reanimated corpses started wandering the streets feeding on the flesh of the living, spreading their disease with incredible speed. Despite she deeply loved her son, and she desperately wanted to protect him, Jessie just couldn’t leave Pete, feeling this strange and paralyzing mixture of love and fear towards her husband. From their marriage eventually a son was born, Ron, and when he got old enough not to be killed by his outbursts, Pete started beating him as well. The worst part was that despite Pete’s nature and attitude, Jessie found herself unable to stop loving him, in a sick and self-destructive relation that imprisoned her body and soul.

The two eventually got married, and Jessie realized what Pete’s true nature was: despite his public facade of a friendly and nice guy, he was actually a violent and abusive man, who often beat her out of pure whim, imposing himself as the “king of the house” and reducing her, with time, as the shadow of her former self, a woman terrified to death of her husband who had to ask permission to do anything not to get him angry (he usually got angry nevertheless). When she was still pretty young, she met a fascinating and charismatic doctor, Pete Anderson, and she fell in love with him. Arguably, she lived somewhere near or within Alexandria. Very little is known of Jessie prior to her life in the Alexandria Safe-Zone. Not that he is usually happy: let’s see together who Jessie is in the comics, and why we should worry of her husband. She is also the one who reassures Rick when his children “go missing” (actually in visit to some elder neighbors’ house), and who in the new episode flirts with him during the welcome party… something that probably won’t make her husband much happy. Today it’s the turn of Jessie, the cheerful woman portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge who welcomes Rick Grimesin the Alexandria Safe-Zone and cuts his hair. Finally, we’re at the last character introduced in The Walking Dead episode Remember (and, in the meantime, just as many have been introduced in the following one…).
